Royal Enfield Himalayan 411 on Rent in Tapovan, Rishikesh
The 411 is the bike that made adventure touring normal in India, and it's still the one we hand to most people riding to Kedarnath for the first time.
It is not the fastest thing we own — 24 horsepower is modest, and the 450 will walk away from it on a highway. What it has instead is 220 mm of ground clearance, 200 mm of front suspension travel, a 21-inch front wheel, and a reputation for being fixable by any mechanic between here and Badrinath with parts they already have on the shelf. On a Uttarakhand hill road in September, those things are worth more than horsepower.
It's also ₹600 a day cheaper than the 450, and softer, and more forgiving of a rider who is still learning what a loaded adventure bike does on gravel.

Who It's For
Take the 411 if:
- You're riding to Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri or Yamunotri
- It's your first adventure bike and you'd rather not learn on 40 horsepower
- You're doing multi-day mountain touring and want luggage capacity and a windscreen
- You want the 450's capability at two-thirds the daily rate
- You're going somewhere remote and value a bike every roadside mechanic in Garhwal understands
Take something else if:
- You're staying in Rishikesh — it's a lot of motorcycle for the run to Laxman Jhula
- You want to make progress on highways — the 411 runs out of breath above about 100 km/h and doesn't enjoy being there
- You're short — 800 mm plus 200 mm of soft travel means it sits tall until your weight settles it

Why Commercial Registration Matters Here
More than on any other page, this is worth spelling out. The checkposts on the Char Dham routes — and the ones at Sonprayag and Govindghat in particular — check registration on rental vehicles. A privately registered bike rented out to a tourist is not legal for hire in Uttarakhand, the insurance does not cover the rider, and riders on them get turned back after seven hours in the saddle.
Every bike we rent, including this one, is commercially registered. Ask to see the RC when you collect it.
Riding Notes, Honestly
The 411 is slow. Genuinely. Loaded, two-up, climbing out of Rudraprayag, you will be in third gear at 45 km/h and that is simply what the bike does. Accept it and it's a wonderful thing; fight it and you'll be frustrated by Srinagar.
Fifteen litres at ~30 kmpl gives you around 420 km, which sounds like plenty until you learn that the pumps between Gaurikund and Chopta are unreliable and close by dark. Fill at every opportunity past Rudraprayag.
The seat is not good for tall riders over long days. If you're doing Char Dham, bring or buy a gel pad.
