If you're staying anywhere in this stretch, you already know the problem: the lanes are narrow, steep in places, and everything you actually want to see is somewhere between six and thirty kilometres away.
Renting on This Side of the River
The Laxman Jhula area sits on the upper right bank, above the town and below the hills, and it's the best place in Rishikesh to keep a vehicle if you plan to use one.
You don't have to cross the river to leave. The Rishikesh–Badrinath highway runs past here. Neelkanth, Devprayag, Kunjapuri and everything north are reachable without going back through Muni Ki Reti and the town-side traffic. People renting from Swarg Ashram lose forty minutes to that on every trip out.
Parking, honestly. Vehicle parking in the Laxman Jhula lanes is genuinely difficult, and it's the main practical argument for a scooty over a Royal Enfield if you're staying here. An Activa fits where a Classic 350 will not, and you will feel this every single evening.
Everything close is close. Tapovan market, the cafes, the ghats, the yoga schools — all within a couple of kilometres. Most of your riding will be short hops, and a 125cc is perfect for them.
Laxman Jhula and Bajrang Setu — What's Actually There
Worth knowing before you plan your riding, because a lot of older travel writing about Rishikesh is now wrong.
The original Laxman Jhula has been closed since July 2019. The 1929 iron suspension bridge was declared structurally unsafe and has not carried pedestrians or vehicles since. The name still refers to the whole neighbourhood — the lanes, the market, the cafes — which is why you'll see it everywhere. The bridge itself, you look at rather than cross.
Bajrang Setu has been built at the same site. A 132-metre cable suspension bridge with glass walkways on both sides, temple-styled towers, connecting Tapovan with Jonk on the Pauri bank — India's first glass-floor suspension bridge, a few minutes from our shop.
